Ingredients

1 1/2 square unsweetened baker's chocolate
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup granulated white sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup white flour
1/8 cup nuts and/or chocolate or butterscotch chips (optional)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease the sides of a bread loaf pan and cover the bottom with parchment paper.

Melt baking chocolate and butter in a microwave-safe small bowl. A large salad bowl works well. Remove from microwave and stir in sugar and vanilla. Fold in egg. Stir in flour, and optional nuts and/or chips.

Pour into bread loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Remove from pan, discard parchment paper, let cool for five minutes, then serve.

For even more impact, top with strawberries and whipped cream.

Makes 2 large brownies, as shown in the illustration, or 4 small ones.
